Jesus Lantermo grew up in a “flamenco-Latin” musical culture. From very young, he used to accompany his father with the guitar in rumbas characterised of flamenco rhythms. During his adolescence, he formed a group together with his cousins called “Chicos Rumba”. The group was composed of three flamenco guitar players when they started to play in public shows with the speciality of rhythm accompaniment at vocals. In 1985, he meets “Juan Carlos and his Rumberos” and play with them for more than 4 years, travelling all over Latin America, including participating in Montevideo channel 4 and performing at San Rafaele Theatre and at the ethnic festival at El Cadillal Theatre, etc.
After his moving to Europe, he meets, by chance, the famous “Gipsy Kings” group, with whom he established a deep friendship, a very determinant one for his musical career future. He lived during some time in the “Camargue”, an environment that was a source of inspiration for many artists, from where Jesus finds his inspiration to compose many songs for the Gipsy. Together with the Gipsy’s four sons: Canut Reyes, Chango Reyes, Hipolyte Regis and Felipe Gamarra, he formed a music group named Rebel Hands. One first album was released called “Gitanerias”, which included 12 songs composed by Jesus Lantermo. A second Album was released later on called “Quisiera”, which included 11 songs, the majority of them composed by Jesus Lantermo. In this second Album, Erik Fernandez performed with his unmistakeable flamenco guitar.
Some years later, Lantermo decided to change path, beginning his career as a solo singer with the support of “Ala Bianca Publishing”. In 2000, the album called “Desierto” was released with 11 songs composed by Jesus. These songs have ethnic connotations, since this particular album was targeted to the lovers of “Word Music”. The album includes the participation of well-known Cuban and Arab artists, such as the Hindu singer “Sheila Hathona”.
It is important to clarify that many of the songs of Lantermo’s discography work were first chosen and then included in the various Latin and ethnic compilations in USA, as well as in Germany and Japan.
In addition, Lantermo has composed music and lyrics for the following artists: Gipsy Kings, Natalia Estrada, Carlos Ramon, Mario Andrel, Mira Leon, Chevere, Latino Man, Los Reyes, Elizabeth Bice, Los Caimanes and others.
At present, Jesus introduces his last album from 2006, where the melodies are a trip to latin, salsa, flamenco, blues and jazz rhythms. Just like Jesus says “it is about time to merger all these rhythms, however the challenge remains to do it with good taste”. He also likes to state “Flamenco y Son con gran Sabor, llevo en mi sangre esta Pasión”.All the strength and freshness of the Latin music merger and interesting lyrics are proof of the professional maturity of Lantermo.
